What is GenderIT.org
This page is designed to tell you who GenderIT.org is. GenderIT.org is a project of the Women's Rights Programme of the Association for Progressive Communications. This document also aims to show you where the website sits in relation to other websites of the Association for Progressive Communications.
Launched in 2006, GenderIT.org is a seminal resource site that provides feminist reviews and commentary on internet policies and cultures. It maps the intersections between women’s rights and sexual rights with internet rights issues, concentrating on bringing voices from the South on these issues, since the discourse is often dominated by those from the North.
The site is meant to be a think-tank OF and FOR women's, sexuality and internet rights activists, academics, journalist and advocates from a range of disciplines and contexts. GenderIT.org provides a space for reflection, influence and advocacy on internet policies and cultures so that they meet women's needs and does not infringe on their rights. It thus also serves as a resource and reference tool, with information on the key players, evolving terms and current debates.
